Sullivan (born 1951) is an American geologist, oceanographer, and NASA astronaut known as the first American woman to perform a spacewalk (1984) and the first woman to reach the deepest point of the oceans \u2013 <b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"234\">Challenger Deep<\/b> (2020). She participated in three shuttle missions (<b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"302\">STS-41-G<\/b>, <b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"312\">STS-31<\/b>, <b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"320\">STS-45<\/b>). She was also the administrator of NOAA.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"20\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Key moments in the history of Kathryn D.
